Are you concerned about the future of your family's health?
The typical American diet consists mainly of red meat, rich desserts and convenience foods high in fat, sugar and salt.
There are many today who have not learned to cook because it is so complicated and time consuming. But as we study nutrition and the effect refined foods have on our bodies, cooking can become enjoyable and purposeful. You have probably heard the statement, "You are what you eat." That is very true. Food affects who we are, how we feel and how we respond to various situations. It affects our energy level and our overall health.
Are you tired of restrictive diets that you can't stick to? The problem with many such diets is that people become weary of them and give up. Our aim is to provide you with a wide variety of delicious, nutritious foods.
Because of my concern for my husband's health, I have been following a low-cholesterol and sugar free way of cooking for many years. With a family history of diabetes and heart problems, and his mother having open heart surgery, I felt we needed a healthier diet to avoid future problems.
If you, like me, are concerned about your family's health, but hate to hear comments like: "What's this stuff?" "If this is what we're having, I'm going out to eat." "Why can't we have good food anymore?" or "What happened to normal food?", take courage. Your family will thank you eventually. They will in time realize that they feel better and are sick less frequently.
Taste buds vary and many people need to acquire a taste for healthy, unrefined foods. Give your family and yourself time. If they are hesitant to try these new foods, start by using part white and part grain flours, using less white and more whole grain, until you are using all whole grain flour.
One half the amount of sugar can be used and half stevia, gradually decreasing to one fourth sugar and three fourths stevia, until you are using all stevia. Only make one new food per meal.
We wish you success on your journey in healthy cooking.
