Description
Sift Together:
1 1/2 cups - flour
1/2 tsp - salt
1/2 tsp - cloves
1 tsp - soda
1/2 tsp - ginger
1/2 tsp - cinnamon
In a large measuring cup mix:
3/4 cup - molassas
1/2 cup - hot water
mix then add 1 egg
Add to this dry ingredients and mix well, but do not overbeat. Blend in 1/4 cup melted shortening. Bake at 350°. Serve with vanilla sauce and/or Cool Whip.
Vanilla Sauce:
1 cup - sugar
2 tbsp- cornstarch
1/4 tsp - salt
2 cups - boiling water
2 tbsp - butter
1 tbsp - vanilla
Mix sugar, salt, and cornstarch and add boiling water, stirring constantly. Boil and stir until thick. Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla.
