Glen Miller was born and raised and Amish farm boy. At age 18, he was drafted during the Korean War. He chose instead to work as a volunteer at the Cleveland Hospital where he sparked an interest in the kitchen. He spent 2 years in service.

In 1955 he was married to Ada Coblentz. They tried their hand at farming and decided it was not for them. Glen then started working for the Castle Nursing Homes of Millersburg, Ohio. He soon became kitchen manager and got his food service license and majored more into dietary, writing menus, etc. He spent 38 years working and managing kitchens and food. He did a lot of catering for weddings and parties, also concession stands at auctions.
